"FIM happy with Indianapolis track."

FIM officials present during this week's Indianapolis MotoGP test say only 'small adjustments' needed in time for the grand prix.

Officials of FIM visited Indianapolis during the two-day MotoGP test this week, and were pleased with the layout and security features of the new road.

The 16-turn circuit was created to test specifications, but the adjustment of the various features will make the racing track ready for the opening of Red Bull GP in Indianapolis on September 12-14.

"The preparation of the track was very, very good," Director of Security FIM Claude Danis said. "Everything went according to what we have decided on my last inspection. Of course, there are some minor adjustments to be done."

These adjustments are the addition of artificial grass next to Turns 1 and 16, installing curb, the final work of grass adjacent to the runway, in addition to the ongoing road gangs and eliminating some bands oval.

"I think the pilots enjoy the track," said Danis. "This track is very difficult, and I think it will be very good for MotoGP."

Suzuki rider Ben Spies, the only rider present at the trial that will also take part in the Grand Prix weekend, was happy with the track circuit after turning over 200 laps during his two days of evidence -- but said more corridors are needed to improve levels of grip.

"The second round, each zone is fine for me," said Spies. "The first time, there are a lot of runoff. In the corner, if you're on your own, I would say it is impossible to get anything because when you start to turn, there are large runoff. Grass hay everywhere.

"In the front immediately, yes, that is between two walls, but everything is the way with the bike, usually not too much going on in a straight line. However, the runoff in turn 1, once it is really the same time, there is a lot. Therefore, it's okay. "

"To be honest, for the first time, I really was not very happy about the way the track was [to handle] and in some places, but is improving each time," he added twice AMA Superbike champion. "It's just a lack of grip in a certain section of the track just because there has been no bicycles in it.

"It's just hard when only have six bikes out there trying to lay down rubber, but is getting better and better. Once more bikes on the track when we return here, obviously the 250s and 125 will stay out on the track, so the grip is back to normal in September.

"There are a couple of small changes once they return here, but it is going to be benchmarks," said Spies. "I think the track will be a work in progress, and is only going to get better. Everybody here is really positive about it."

Also present at the test was Suzuki in 1993, 500cc world champion Kevin Schwantz.

"I think the design is great, and for spectators to come here to see the United States and for the first time, 125s, 250s and [MotoGP] all together here at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - the mecca of auto racing - is just big , "Enthusiasm. "We talk about careers within an oval or a Speedway and is usually not very well-defined place out, and this track has ido at all costs and have not reduced the corners to try to make this the best motorcycle event here in the United States.
