Exclusively! James Toseland talks to Eurosport after Mugello, where he seeks a return to form in the Italian MotoGP.
I had a tough stretch of new tracks recently, so it's great to arrive at Mugello, where I am not a complete novice. Although I've never run before in Mugello, I tested here three years ago for Ducati so I know which way it goes.
It makes a real difference, because it is very difficult to learn a new track in a couple of hours and then go straight into qualifying. It is not a case of turn left when the track goes well, but you will never learn all small undulations and features that quickly, and it is difficult to obtain the configuration.
Yamaha are great because there's a lot of cooperation with my team-mate Colin Edwards, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. Colin and Valentino, in particular, are massively experienced guys, so it can be really useful to see their telemetry data, especially on a track that I am not familiar. All have received from other information, and none of secrecy that might find in some other sports.
I was disappointed to crash at Le Mans - especially with three Yamaha in achieving the podium, but I do not want to play the blame game. Andrea Dovizioso was wide in turn three and I went through the interior. I was in his blind spot and just cut through me. Unfortunately I came off worse. It is one of those things and 50-50 since then would not say that was his fault.
I know that I criticized him earlier in the season for my driving style, but his move was certainly not intentional and I do not think you could call depreciation. This sport is too dangerous for anyone to enter a career of holding grudges, and I fully trust all my competitors to race with responsibility, like me. That was my first failure to get a points finish, but I still believe we are making good progress.
The first race in Qatar was in a Superbike track I know well - and has since been brand new tracks. Even so, I've been struggling in the first six and get half a second of the pole position, so I do not think there is too much to worry about. People have been saying what they are impressed with Valentino this year, but I have been impressed by much more than that.
He is a seven times world champion, five in the MotoGP class, and he is just a great ambassador for the sport. He is in great form, Yamaha is doing well and hope to sign a new contract. If you want to be the best runner in the world that you have to beat Valentino Rossi, and that is the challenge for us all.
I do not want to win the championship after his retirement, then have everyone saying "Well, Rossi was not racing." I have no idea how serious are the rumors about him going into F1 meeting or - I do not know what you personally and what I just heard the same things as everyone else.
All I know is that he is as determined as ever and that definitely has not lost none of its hunger for MotoGP. If there was, indeed, would not exceed the championship. Michael Schumacher has ido bicycle racing, but personally I have no other engine passions that I want to meet.
I am dedicated to two wheels, and if I have an alternative of interest is my music - so it could be the next step after retiring from racing!
Fantasy: Selections Mugello
The MotoGP season reaches for the Mugello GP Italy this weekend - and hence, it is time again to consider its options in our exclusive fantasy game! This track has become synonymous with the name of Valentino Rossi in recent years.
It has recently come back fine - but how will you make room for him in his elite team? RIDERS Rossi, Rossi, Rossi (20m). All rights, so after calling once again got it wrong last time in connection with the likeable Italian, for this round we have become massive and turncoats say it back! Now! He has won the last six-six! -- MotoGPs at Mugello and, conveniently ignoring his performance in the two races before the 500cc four-stroke era, also had victories in the 250s and 125s.
There goes wrong, he told everyone. But do not throw hasty and Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo (13m). He still is not 100 percent after hobbling to and from his bike in France, but he showed that he can wring a podium end of the bicycle whatever the circumstances, as he carved his way through the field.
It seems that the very top teams in our game fantasy opted for Andrea Dovizioso (10.5m) in place last week - the lowest ranking rider, freeing more mass banking and almost as many points as novice Jorge companions - but in its 250cc circuit record in his home is less impressive than in Le Mans.
Dani Pedrosa (19m) is the second in the riders championship along with Lorenzo and behind Rossi. He might with a value of one point if it lacks the odd million to snap up Rossi. He was second to Rossi last year and 250s also has a win there in your CV.
If you're looking for a little further down the list, why not go with very impressive Colin Edwards (17m)? The third took place in the last round and is a solid investment. Team Fiat Yamaha (11m) have won three of the five races in 2008 - the last three, no less. They are the best value at that price too.
Repsol Honda (12m) have come closest in terms of points this year, compared with 75 obtained with the teams of the classification of 105 leaders, but Ducati Marlboro (12.5m) are inexplicably more popular among our players, Although measly return of 35.
Yamaha Factory sister Squad Tech 3 (8m) have achieved 50, and are the second most popular team, possibly due to the presence of James Toseland next to Edwards. Tyres Michelin (7m) have won the last 15 first-class place in medical Mugello. Or by what sets the official press release of the French tire brand, which is good enough for us.
Manufacturer Yamaha (7.5m) have earned four pole positions this season a total of five races to go with those three victories GP mentioned above. So go with them, or pay the consequences. But for the record, Honda (8m) historically have proved the most successful factory on the track. Watch all the action live on Eurosport Mugello this weekend!
